Blooming Noni // Morinda citrifolia
Medicinal uses and benefits of Noni:
Noni is one of Hawai’i’s medicinal foods. For hundreds of years it has held a central place in la`au lapa`au, or Hawaiian herbal medicine. It can be used internally, by being eaten or consumed as a drink, and externally as a poultice to the skin.
Dr. Isabella Abbott documented the use of medicinal plants in her authoritative book, Lā‘au Hawai‘i. She noted that noni has since been determined to contain xeronine, an alkaloid used to address arthritis, menstrual cramps, and high blood pressure.
It is known for its anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties which supports the immune system, maintains bone health in women and regulates blood pressure.
Noni’s use as an analgesic has been known in the history of traditional medicine, so that the plant is called as "painkiller tree" or "headache tree". Scientific research has proven the beneficial effects of Noni to overcome pain, including menstrual pain.
