Koa Butterfly / Udara blackburnii
Known as the Koa Butterfly or Blackburn's Blue, Udara blackburnii has an inch-wide wingspan. It is one of only two native butterflies in Hawa'i.
Its wings shimmer with an unbelievable iridescence - blue on top and aquamarine beneath.
Both the adult butterfly and the caterpillar are known for feeding on the Koa tree which is endemic to Hawai'i. They also feed on other native plants such as 'a'ali'i, olomea, and mamaki.
