Nu'uanu Valley / Lulumahu Falls
Nu'uanu Valley on O'ahu is a historically significant neighborhood tucked amongst the folds of the Ko'olau Mountains. The valley begins at the Nu'uanu Pali Lookout and slopes down towards the ocean ending just on the outskirts of Downtown Honolulu.
Highlighted here is Lulumahu Falls. The 50ft waterfall is located near the Kaniakapūpū Ruins, King Kamehameha III's summer home and where some of the core components of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi were developed, including the Declaration of Rights in 1839 and the first constitution in 1840. It is a site closed to the public.
Featured in the foreground is 'awapuhi or "shampoo ginger". Brought to the islands around 300 AD in the canoes of Polynesian settlers, Hawaiians favored it for the sudsy fluid its flower heads release when squeezed.
